Boy, did I catch it this week.  First I got myself in hot water on my comment that someone made an ass of themselves.  I thought it was someone else who complained about the candidate’s shirt so I need to apologize to the one who did. As I named no names, I will continue to name no names.  However, I still think the ruckus was uncalled for.  Just blame it on politics and the dog eat dog campaign between the republicans and democrats.  I try to remember that after election, we will all still live here in the county and will need to work together.

I made several other contacts and gathered some more information.  I am checking out some of it.  Other parts I feel are just total fiction.  None of what I have learned so far has changed my decisions.

I decided to back Gregg Sweeten for sheriff some time ago.  He is proving to be the most qualified person to fill the sheriff’s position.  Just look at his record during the past four years to see what he and Don Schlessman have accomplished.  I think there are still a few things that need to be changed, but let the new sheriff handle those.  Why make a drastic change when something is working ?  let us keep our momentum going for the good of the community.

The final day to sign up for the 911 board has passed and the names have been turned in to the county clerk to put on the ballot.  On the November 5th ballot you will see a choice between Michael Hall and Tim Miller for chairman/member at large.  As you know, I am supporting Michael Hall.  There are many reasons including that I think his history with all aspects of emergency services qualify him for the position.  Another is that if Tim Miller is elected, that will leave his current position on the board open to be filled by appointment by the board led by Mr. Miller not elected by the voters.  If we elect Michael Hall, the board will be run as a county office not a private business that is interested in keeping the people informed.  Mr. Hall, although not currently on the board, has been involved with many aspects of it since its inception and can bring some new ideas to the table.

If you vote for the eastern commissioner, you will have a choice for board member Bill Anderson or Bill Davenport on the ballot.  I plan to vote for Bill Davenport for that position and will have more information on his qualifications later.

If you vote for the western commissioner, your only choice will be for Ted Huston.  He has done a good job and will continue to do so if he stays in office.  Vote on this also.  Let your input be counted.

Make sure you vote for both, the chairman and the regular board member.  Your vote will count and may make the difference.

So, on November 5th, vote Sweeten for Sheriff, Hall for 911 board president and Davenport for the eastern 911 board member for the good of our county.  If you have any questions, email me at eric@awfulstuff.com or Esther at smudge_mom@yahoo.com

Moral cowardice that keeps us from speaking our minds is as dangerous to this country as irresponsible talk. The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character. Margaret Chase Smith
